JOYous occasions

Today I made these from Joy the Baker for my friend named Joy. It just worked out like that. You can't stop some things in life especially when they're awesome like THAT. I've also figured out I've made 7 things from Joy's site. SEVEN. I know there are so many other food blogs out there... but hers is so SIMPLE and funny that I can't even stop my fingers from traveling in her links direction. My fingers know quality when they see it. I'm on a quest to bake something from SOMEONE ELSE'S SITE so if on the off chance J the B herself travels over here she doesn't think I'm a) a filthy, low-down, dirty moocher of baked goods or b) downright, flat out creepy. I'm neither for the record. Just know.

So the dough was kinda crumbly but my shortbread/butter cookie dough always is... we just have a weird relationship, like I'm not yet worthy to make a butter cookie dough that DOESN'T crumble. It always turns out delicious though. So I guess it's more of a silent agreement between the baking angel and I. These are SERIOUSLY good! Train your fingers to go on over to Joy's site and bake these TODAY. ("Let's rock, let's rock, today.")

I used Alice in Wonderland inspired tags for her cookies and coffee card, except nothing but good things will happen when you eat these. No growing or shrinking in houses and rabbit holes. Much safer I think.

I also decided if I ever opened a bakery it'd be called Messy Shirt Bakery. There was a point last night when there was more flour on my shirt than in the bowl. There's a problem with that.
Would you come to Messy Shirt Bakery? No shirt? That's ok I got a messy one for you to put on. We'll serve you now.

happy birthday???

My family has the eerie ability to have birthdays 2 days apart from each other. Rissa and Randa (today and the 12th), my mom and my brother (the 17th and the 19th) and my sister and me (May 12th and 14th). RIGHT?! CRRRREEEP.YYYYYYY!!!

Subsequently my grandmother ends up calling me on my sister's birthday, my brother on my mother's birthday and don't get me started on the beginning of March. My cousin's birthdays are the 9th, 10th and 12th. She just calls all three people the entire week just to make sure she hasn't missed anyone. It's now a ritual we look forward to every year.

May 12th
G-Ma: Haaappy biiiirthdaaay toooo yooou
Me: Grandma it's Sammi's birthday *starts to hang up*
G-Ma: *fading* ooookaaaay...

May 13th
G-Ma: Haaappy biiiirthdaaay toooo yoooou!
Me: Grandma my birthday is tomorrow *starts to hang up*
G-Ma: *fading* ooookaaaaay...

May 15th
G-Ma: Haaaappy biiirthdaaay toooo yooou!!
Me: Grandma! My birthday was YESTERDAY. *starts to hang up*
G-Ma: *fading* neeext yeaaaar...

HA! I don't want it to seem like my grandma is senile (she cheats at cards... definitely still got all the marbles) or that I hate when she calls on the wrong day - I don't haha it just happens every year. That was just a small summary of 23 years of phone calls all from my awesome grandma.

This year I'm getting my nose pierced on my birthday! It's gonna be awesome. I will have to figure out how to tell Autumn that while her cool, artsy aunt has her nose pierced NO SHE CANNOT GET ONE. Yeesh. Being a role model is buh-freaking-TIRING. ;0)

the sounds of silence

I'm sitting in my house after working my first 46 hour week (well... technically after tomorrow) and I'm hearing the most wonderful noise ever.

Silence.

Not phones ringing, people asking questions, "Where is this?!" multi-task mastering, circus driving nothing... just silence, and the slow sleepy sunset outside my west facing windows.

Happy Weekending! (now an Olympic sport... Summer 2012.)

get the cool shoe shine

I just wanted to show you these:
Raspberry Truffle Wristwarmers Raspberry Truffle Wristwarmers
My sister made them! Don't they look like the best ice cream EVER... uh... on your hands? Blueberry Cobbler - whaaaat?!

OK i also had to tell you a story. Yesterday morning I woke up and decided I needed an ice cream sundae. And I made one - it was extra tasty for 9 am. Then I had a bite of a cinnamon roll haha and fell into a sugar induced little nap. It was actually pretty awesome. After I woke up the second time I called my mom and told her what I had for breakfast and was like, "Isn't that nuts? I'm so weird." She responds, "Noooot really..." and goes into this story about when I was 4, after dropping my brothers and sisters off at school we went to eat cuz we ran out of the house without eating. Apparently I was in my pajamas... no time for that either - fantastic haha. But I ordered a sundae... then ordered a hamburger and thought it was perfectly normal - and I guess my mom did, too, cuz she let me eat it haha.

So, YES, I AM weird, but somehow this weirdness is normal for me. Does that make sense? I know... I'm out of the box, but that's like 26% of why people like me.
